Two couples with french connections have stayed with us at Waihi Beach Lodge over the last week on their honeymoons.
The first couple - she was from around Waihi Beach and he was from France - both living in Queensland where they are both jockeys - married at Tuapiro Point arriving at their ceremony on horse back ( would you expect anything else) and their wedding night at here in Waihi Beach after the reception at the Waihi Beach RSA.
Why Waihi Beach ? Thats where I spent all my holidays growing up and now my family live around here so it was only natural to have the wedding & reception here was the reply from the bride. After Xmas they head to Paris to catch up with the grooms family.
And the second couple were married in Paris last weekend - arriving at Waihi Beach 5 days later after catching the Eurostar and a flight to NZ to start their honeymoon -she was French and he was Welsh - both solicitors and really wanted to come to New Zealand and the honeymoon was perfect timing. Walks on the beach, a swim and some R & R and this couple are "in heaven" they say after kayaking through the glow worm caves with Waimarino on one of their night tours.
They are off to Rotorua today and then to Wellington spending Xmas day in Fox Glacier and the new year in Australia. They are looking forward to Xmas in summer even though it will be a little weird as back home in Wales it will be very cold
